Harriet Kadlec, age 84, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Nov. 18, 2008, at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, WI.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1923, to Fred and Nan (Jorgensen) Rubo in Monroe County, WI. She was united in marriage to Thomas E. Kadlec on May 24, 1941, in Tomah, WI.

Harriet was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shennington. She lived her whole life in and around the Tomah, Wyeville and Shennington areas. She graduated from Tomah High School in 1941, worked and was involved in many community organizations and businesses. At one time Harriet and Tom owned and operated Tom’s Bar in Wyeville. She was instrumental in organizing the Wisconsin State High School Rodeo when it took place in Tomah. She was active in the Nite-Riders Snowmobile Club. During her final working years she volunteered for Monroe County Senior Services as a driver for those who needed help. She kept busy in her retirement years playing cards, sewing and being with family and friends. During the last year of her life, while residing at the Fairview Nursing Home in Mauston, Harriet enjoyed most the dear friends and family who visited her as well as the loving and caring nursing staff at the home. Now she rests content in the arms of Jesus her Savior.

She is survived by four daughters, Judith Johnson of Chicago, IL, Loral (Nathan) Radichel of Rainier, WA, Thomasine (Dennis) Poss of Sterling, AK, and Bonnie (Randy) Kissack of Mauston; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; sister, Dorothy; brother, Donald; and three grandsons, Russell Johnson, Jay Poss and Infant Radichel.

Harriet will be laid to rest beside her husband on Friday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Wood Cemetery, Tomah. Pastor Jeff Ruetten will officiate. A funeral service will follow the burial at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shennington. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Harriet requested that memorials be sent to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shennington, WI, or the memorial of your choice.
